Pakistan now says a “final, agreed upon text” has been reached for a deal to end the Iran War. That is an important development. It may even be the beginning of the vend of this conflict.

During these negotiations, the United States has shot down two Iranian drones that were attempting to strike commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. That fact cuts through the diplomatic language. A country that is serious about peace does not negotiate with one hand while threatening commercial shipping with the other. That is not good faith. That is pressure. That is leverage. That is childish behavior dressed up in diplomatic clothing.

But it is not yet peace.

Pakistan is the mediator. Iran and United States are the parties. Until both sides sign the document, and until Iran performs under the terms of that document, this remains a promise moving toward paper. It is not yet proof.

That distinction matters because Iran is asking to be trusted while still behaving like a child.

The reported deal appears to center on Iran’s nuclear program, sanction relief, money, oil, and the future of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Those are not small issues. They are the heart of the conflict.

But the first issue must be uranium.

Iran must release or dispose of its enriched uranium. It must pledge not to seek a nuclear bomb in the future. And that pledge must not be temporary. It must not be vague. It must not be written in language that allows Iran to cheat later and claim it obeyed the agreement.

If the word is forever, then forever must mean forever.

The danger is not that negotiations exist. Talking is not weakness if the terms are strong. The danger is that America may be asked to trust Iran before Iran has earned trust. That would be weakness.

There is a difference between a final text and a lasting peace. A final text can be announced. A lasting peace depends on what follows.

Reporting from multiple outlets has highlighted Pakistan’s role as mediator and the complex process of proposals, responses, and negotiations that lead to the reported agreement. Public statements from the parties involved have not always aligned, illustrating the uncertainty that often accompanies high-stakes diplomacy.

The details of the agreement matter because they will determine whether the deal addresses the concerns that led to the conflict in the first place.

Key issues include:

Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and whether it is permanently surrender, removed, or destroyed.

Verification and inspection mechanisms to ensure Iran cannot secretly continue nuclear development.

Sanctions relief and whether economic benefits are provided before Iran fulfills its obligations.

Protection of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and guarantees against future disruptions.

Iran’s use of drones and proxy forces to threaten regional stability and international commerce.

Enforcement provisions, including what happens if Iran violates the agreement.

The role of mediators such as Pakistan and whether all parties formally accept and implement the final terms.

Long-term assurances that Iran will not pursue a nuclear weapon in the future.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important maritime rotes, making freedom of navigation a significant concern for governments and global markets alike.

President Trump has emphasized the importance of addressing Iran’s uranium program as part of any agreement. Supporters of that program argue that strong verification and enforcement provisions are essential to ensuring the deal achieves its objectives.

The United States should evaluate the agreement based on its terms. It’s enforceability, and its ability to reduce the risks that contributed to the conflict.

The paper may say peace.

Trump says the deal will be signed Sunday June 14, 2026.

Whether that announcement becomes a durable peace will depend on what happens next.
